Project Page: Environmental Services - Central District Alliance

Environmental Services

CDA is committed to making the neighbourhoods we serve cleaner, safer and more welcoming for all.

These are the foundations of our other initiatives to enhance the visitor experience and quality of life for employees and residents in our district. We place priority on them because we know from our engagement that they are very important to our levypayers. We also know that other initiatives are less effective if we are not doing our best to help our local authorities and other public sector partners get the basics right.

Overview

As we look forward to the next BID term, we will innovate in services delivery to ensure value for money. For example, our Environmental Services team will be equipped with a fleet of electric assisted vehicles (EAVs) to cover the 1 million sq ft of the BID area. The EAVs complement our wider net-zero sustainability goals and produce no emissions “at the tail pipe”. Our on-street janitorial electric vehicle (EV) will be utilising environmentally friendly jet washing products to keep our public spaces clean as well as providing an on-call service to swiftly address business
concerns.

Our holistic approach to supporting street management across our district will also include working in closer partnership with our local authorities to monitor and action street clutter and highway defects such as “rocking manhole” covers and damaged street light and traffic light columns. We will continue to collaborate closely with local authority services to ensure that our initiatives complement their efforts, maximising efficiency and delivering high-quality public services across the district.

Our key objectives for 2025 - 2030

One

To continue to provide a hard working on-street Environmental Services Team and working collaboratively with our key stakeholders to make the area a better place to live, work and visit.

Two

To proactively monitor, report and resolve environmental issues and street defects with our local authority partners on a daily basis.

Three

To work in closer partnership with Camden and Islington as well as independent waste collectors to support a more cohesive approach to the management of street cleansing across the BID area.

Projects

EAVs

We have introduced three new Electric Assisted Vehicles (EAVs) to our fleet, enhancing the efficiency of our cleaning operations. These vehicles not only improve our ability to respond swiftly to environmental needs across the district but also align with our commitment to sustainability by reducing carbon emissions.

On-Street Team

Our On-Street Team conducts daily patrols to maintain cleanliness throughout the district. They work closely with local authorities to address any environmental concerns promptly and also provide ambassador services, assisting visitors with information and reporting any issues that arise.

Janitorial Team

The Janitorial Team offers specialised cleaning services to businesses on request, supplementing the public cleaning services already in place. They focus on high-traffic areas, ensuring these locations remain tidy and welcoming at all times, both during the day and into the night.

Overnight Team

The Overnight Team is tasked with deep cleaning activities that require more time and minimal disruption to daily activities. They focus on intensive cleaning needs, such as graffiti removal and thorough street washing, operating during off-peak hours to maintain the district’s high standard of cleanliness.
